HAL Typefaces is an independent vendor for digital fonts and bespoke typographic solutions. Founded in 2022, the foundry is operated by Studio HanLi, a Berlin-based practice for graphic design and typography.

The detailed conception and production of distinct typefaces, both retail and custom, are an integral part of the studio’s constructive approach and aesthetic research, following the objective of creating typographic expression for and from the graphic designer’s perspective.

In addition to type, further activities occur in the form of talks, teaching and tools, such as the HAL TypePad.

We offer the following services for hire:

● altering, customising and adapting retail typefaces (incl. updates on language support; adding desired symbols, icons, glyphs, etc. to the character set; expanding weights and styles; modifying open-type features)

● designing logos, logotypes and bespoke lettering

● variable fonts

● creating custom typefaces for brands, organizations, and institutions.

Whether developing a new visual identity or working on a redesign of an established brand, we work closely with clients to create thoughtful, tailor-made typographic systems. Our bespoke work includes building entirely new type families from scratch; from a specific source, reference or aesthetic point of departure; or modifying existing ones.
